Kolo: 70 years later

The book celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Serbian national traditional dance ensemble KOLO. Over the years Kolo ensemble has been the keeper and ambassador of the traditional Serbian art.

160-page photo monograph is a product of a three-year collaboration with Jelena Janković. Her vision and contemporary approach presented traditional dances in a completely unexpected way. Through eight different concepts, various details, different perspectives, unexpected angles, the book offers everything that is otherwise hidden from the audience's view.

In her photographs, traditional dance looks completely different from how it is usually presented. Agile and in the shadows, in the same moment KOLO dancers appear as ghosts and as performers. In Jelena’s photos, everyone looks as if they are always on the move, even when standing still.
